If you live in the state of Florida, one thing that you always have to be on the lookout for are signs for a sinkhole. Pine Ridge residents should be aware that sinkholes form when certain types of sediment such as limestone are eroded away under the surface of the ground causing open cavities and crevasses. These holes underground are actually sinkholes. If the hole is big enough or if it is closer to the surface of the ground you can actually see physical dips or depressions in your yard. Even if you have a depression in your yard, it does not mean that there is a sinkhole on your property; you need to look for additional signs of a sinkhole.
Signs around Your Yard for Sinkhole Activity
Apart from physical holes to show that their might be a sinkhole on your property, there are other signs that suggest that their might be an active sinkhole. Pine Ridge residents should pay close attention to the alignment of their fence as a sinkhole can shift the ground underneath sections of the fence and cause them to lean, shift, or create the illusion that it is sinking or getting smaller. Another popular sign that a sinkhole might be present under your home is if you start to notice pools of water collecting in your yard after it rains.
Signs in Your Home of a Sinkhole
If you cannot tell if there is a sinkhole on your property based on what you observe in your yard, there are signs in your home that also show that their might be a sinkhole. Pine Ridge residents should be careful of cracks around their windows and doors, but especially in corners of a home. Another sign that suggests that their might be a sinkhole under your home is if you are having trouble closing your windows or doors when you never previously had problems doing so.
