Living in the state of Florida is a dream that many people all share. There are many qualities of living in the state that appeal to people, such as the warm weather, all the water and beach activities, and all the great tourist events to try.

While living in the state of Florida can sure seem like a paradise for many, there are some serious issues that people need to be aware of if they are going to be living here. One of the most common issues people need to prepare for are hurricanes, the other big issue is understanding sinkholes.

Much of Florida has the right geological conditions to make sinkhole form, but likely there are signs too. When it comes to signs of a sinkhole, Spring Hill residents should know that there are some common things to look out for that may make you believe that a sinkhole is active and growing larger, and needs to be addressed with by a professional.

Signs That Show in the Yard of a Homeowner

Sinkholes form underground when certain types of soil and sediments are being eroded away by water. When those soils and sediments get removed, a homeowner may start to notice some changes in their yard where the sinkhole is near.

For starters, when it comes to signs of a sinkhole, Spring Hill residents should look out for any depressions that are starting to form that were not there previously. All ground is subject to environmental changes, but it takes a lot of force or a lot of time to make physical depressions in the ground.

Apart from physical depressions in the ground of a home, a homeowner may start to notice that water is collecting or pooling in areas that it never once did before. This goes hand in hand with sinkholes creating depressions in the ground, as it can cause water to collect in certain areas.

Signs of a Sinkhole Inside a Home

Sinkholes can start to have an effect on the inside of the home if it is sitting close enough to the foundation of the building. While it is not very common that a homeowner notices sloping or depressions forming inside their home, there are still some other signs that a sinkhole is present.

Inside a home, a person needs to watch out for any cracking that they might see on the walls of the home. This is especially true when talking about the door frames of a home or around the windows of a home.

When it comes to inside signs of a sinkhole, Spring Hill residents should also notice they are having trouble closing their doors and windows as well. This has to deal with the fact that a house’s foundation starts to shift when soils and sediments get removed.
