Owning your own home is a lot of responsibility. One of the most important aspects about being a homeowner is the fact that you have to regularly be active to make sure that everything is in good condition.
Natural disasters are the biggest concern for Florida homeowners when talking about keeping your home safe, as they are out of our control to handle. Hurricanes and sinkholes are the biggest issues that homeowners need to be concerned about.
While it may be hard to be able to determine the path of an active hurricane, finding out if there is an active sinkhole on your property is a lot easier. When it comes to sinkholes, Lake Lindsey residents should know that there are some signs that they may notice that would prompt them to consider getting a professional to come out and assess the situation.
Retention of Water On the Property
One of the more obvious signs that homeowners may start to notice if there is an active sinkhole on their property is water starts to pool up in places that it once didn’t.
Depending on the landscape of a property, pooling water is not something to be worried about. However, if water collecting in your yard was never an issue before, it may be the result of an active sinkhole. Lake Lindsey residents should know that this typically happens when depressions start to form from loss of sediment, and water will collect.
At first, when a sinkhole first starts developing and is not too big, it can be hard to determine if a little depression in your yard is the result of a sinkhole or some other natural cause. Only large sinkholes will have larger holes and depressions present that are super obvious.
Issues to be Found Inside the Home
Because a sinkhole is an outside phenomenon underground, it is more obvious to see changes to your yard than the inside of the home, but there are some signs that the inside of a home will show when there is an active sinkhole. Lake Lindsey residents should know that some of the issues will actually affect the functionality of some items in the home.
One of the more apartment signs inside the home that is caused by an active sinkhole is cracks inside the home. These cracks will most commonly be found on walls that are corners of a room, or around the frames of doors and windows.
In conjunction with finding cracks around the windows and doors of a home, some homeowners might start to notice that these items are becoming harder to use. For example, an open window may be harder to close, or a door may not be able to sit correctly inside its frame.
