Sinkholes are similar to plants in the sense that there are certain times of their years when they seem to grow very rapidly, and other times when little to no growth is visible. This is something that many people that live in areas of the country where sinkholes are likely do not understand. There are certain environmental and geological conditions that can accelerate the growth of an active sinkhole. Trinity residents might benefit themselves by knowing what are some of the common situations where sinkholes are most active, as it may help them feel more confident in their ability to identify sinkholes.

Sinkholes are Linked to Rain and Water

In order for a sinkhole to develop, specific types of sediment such as limestone must be eroded away by water. Once the sediment is removed, it creates these giant fissures we know as a sinkhole. Trinity residents should know that more likely than not, sinkholes are more likely to grow and change when there has been regular water from seasonal storms. The wet season for different areas of the country will not be the same for all. For example, in the state of Florida, our wet season is the summer months of the year, where it rains almost every day and hurricanes are common.

Summer Rainy Season

A sinkhole can develop at any time the right geological conditions are met, but the most common time for them to form is in the wetter summer months. When water is constantly being filtered through the ground, it is going to regularly erode the certain types of sediments that cause a sinkhole. Trinity residents might be able to visually see the changes in their yard or home, as daily erosion can quickly wound up greeting the necessary conditions for a sinkhole. Some of the signs that a sinkhole is active on your property are physical depression in the yard, cracks starting to develop in a home, and some other signs.
